  • Bartco Lighting
Bartco Lighting manufactures specification grade, low profile linear fluorescent, compact fluorescent and incandescent fixtures for architectural and display applications in retail, hospitality, commercial, institutional and residential installations.

They had a 20’x40’ island exhibit at Lightfair 2010. At this show they wanted to introduce and test the reaction in the market for this new revolutionary “STUDIO” product line of fixtures they were planning on introducing to the marketplace in a year of two. They also wanted to showcase their existing range of Bartco products. Bartco wanted a very clean and high-end, architectural look and feel for both areas with an enclosed area to show off the STUDIO line in a museum type of environment. They have numerous products that needed to be suspended from ceiling panels as well as wall and corner fixtures. In some cases these fixtures needed to be handled by clients during the show. They also had a hospitality area within their booth as well as necessary storage for promotional items, etc.

    Criteria Met:

Overall Bartco wanted to rent the structure as they felt that gave them the greatest flexibility with their trade-show marketing. Bartco is very resourceful and self-sufficient with their manufacturing capabilities. To help reduce costs they were able to manufacture the product display boards and ceiling panels themselves. Knowing this I developed a baby truss structure that was robust enough to support their product boards. Most of the structure was covered in fabric graphics that Kristian Johnson at Bartco designed.

In the STUDIO area Bartco wanted a very clean and modern looking structure that would be like a museum environment. Their fixtures were attached to clean, white boards as well as being suspended from the overhead truss. This gave the impression of a fluorescent light “sculpture”. Some other fixtures fit into the corners of the space in unique ways and still other fixtures attached to the underside of a built-in soffit along one wall. I included a sheer fabric panel along the front aisle so people could see into the room from the outside. This was intended to spark curiosity and draw people in for a closer look.

The BARTCO portion of the exhibit needed to show the rest of their product offerings. Specifically they had many ceiling fixtures as well as overhead and floor sconces and a multitude of various T5 fixtures of different sizes. This area had several monolith displays along the perimeter of the exhibit. So people would walk through those displays to the interior of the exhibit. In the center was a long table for snacks, beverages and storage. Here the staff could engage the clients while relaxing on the ottomans and sipping wine or sodas. The entrance to the STUDIO area was here as well.

They were very happy and excited about this design. It met all of their objectives for the show and it earned Bartco the Award of Distinction for Booth Concepts from LightFair 2010.

  • Scantron
For more than three decades, Scantron has helped education and commercial organizations measure and improve effectiveness with assessment and survey solutions. The company is best known for defining the market for the rapid, accurate and reliable capture of student performance data. Scantron continues this trend with innovative software and survey solutions that leverage their expertise in world-class forms printing and scanner manufacturing. Today, approximately 80% of schools in the United States use Scantron products.

Scantron combines its consulting, data collection and analysis expertise to offer full-service survey and research solutions that will enable their customers to make intelligent business decisions. Their complete project management service means organizations can rely on Scantron for all aspects of survey projects. From customer and employee satisfaction and loyalty surveys to research initiatives, they are the experts in data collection and analysis.

OBJECTIVE: Scantron wanted to capitalize on their brand recognition with a clean yet impactful design to entice people to their exhibit and educate them on their consulting and data analytics services. This exhibit needed to be reconfigurable so that they could have two booths at simultaneous shows.

SOLUTION: Anyone who has been educated in the last thirty years recognizes the iconic, fill-in-the-bubble design of Scantron. To capitalize on this iconic image, I created a slightly curved backwall that mimics the Scantron scorecard. To further reinforce this image I included cable suspended round signs that represent those bubbles. On each sign is the classic “A-B-C” ghosted back with specific text about their products highlighted on each graphic. This exhibit has been designed to be reconfigured and used concurrently at two different shows.

  • Disney Magic Music Days 20x20 Exhibit
Magic Music Days is a program put on by the Disneyland Resort. It brings in school and community groups to perform in the parks and/or take part in workshops or clinics. This exhibit would allow selected children to play in an orchestra together inside the exhibit. Then their music would be synced to such Disney classics like Fantasia and played back for everyone's enjoyment. The children would get to see the classic film with their music playing. In this case I developed the initial concept and created the structural design. Lindsay White (another designer at Skyline Orange County) created t he final graphics for this exhibit. Disney was extremely pleased with the outcome. In fact they are still using this same design (with updated graphics) seven years after it's inception.

  • Axolotl
Axolotl needed a 20'x20' exhibit that was lightweight and modular. In this space they needed a small presentation area, semi-private meeting area with table and 4 chairs and three demo workstations, and a reception area. Axolotl wanted a clean and simple look and feel to show their Elysium software.

  • Mitem
Jon Wollenhaupt, Marketing Communications Manager, Mitem Corporation says, "Our new Inlighten booth has been a great vehicle to show case our new product brand identity, Blue Iris. We have found that the booth design attracts a lot of attention at large shows, and is easy to set up and dismantle. In addition, the cost of ownership for the Inlighten 10x20 booth is half that of other products we considered."
